Congratulations to our Cross County Team on a season well run. This year our student council has a record 29 members of the junior high school and 3 staff facilitators. We look forward to having these students lead our school to an incredible 2023-24 school year.
Thank you to our sponsors and everyone who came out to Track-A-Thon!!! We had so much fun! An extra-big shout out to all of our FSA and student volunteers for making this such a memorable time.
Our students and Ms. Shawell assembled a prayer quilt from all of the memory squares that were made the first week of school. It is made up of all of the beautiful memories our students shared about Fr. Mike and serves as a reminder for us to PRAY ALWAYS. We celebrated Grandparent and Special Persons Day this week. We were glad to have so many loved ones join us for Mass, explore our classrooms and join us for a brief reception.
Aloha from our second graders, who made the most of the warm weather around the holiday weekend. Our sixth graders created Reading Road Maps in Junior High Literature this week. They reflected on their life-long reading journey, the books that left a lasting impression, and then shared their roadmaps with the class. An invitation to Track-A-Thon.
We wrapped up the first week with an all-school welcome assembly, where we welcomed new students in each and every grade level. We welcome back our cross country team and wish them the best of luck this season. It was absolutely beautiful for a Knight Under the Stars, our Ravinia-style parents night out. Thank you to all who joined us! Track-A-Thon is on September 16, sponsors are still needed and all are welcome to attend.
We look forward to greeting our students on Monday for the new school year. We welcomed our staff back and would like to introduce the newest members to the St. Hubert School family: Ashley Rylander (Assistant Principal), Julie Ingoglia (Preschool Teacher) and Abigail Oliphant (Technology & STEM Teacher). Our hearts are heavy missing our beloved pastor, Fr. Mike Scherschel. Fr. Mike taught all of us how to live, to love and most importantly to pray. He encouraged us to live our lives with Jesus in our hearts. He loved all of us and we felt that everyday. We know he is looking after us as we begin the school year and always.
Our hallways were alive with the 4th and 5th grade Wax Museum. Students researched a historical figure, wrote an report, prepared a biographical speech, and transformed into their figure at the press of a button! Join us in congratulating our shining stars on their Spring Musical Excerpts Performances. And last, but not least, congratulations to our class of 2023, that graduated on Friday, June.2.
Our Senior & Junior Bands and 3rd-grade flute-o-phone players treated us to a concert yesterday. They did a superb job under the leadership of our Band Director, Naomi Sohn! Our students’ creativity was on display in the hallways for our first-ever Art Walk. We celebrated our St. Hubert School volunteers this week. Fr. Mike blessed them and thanked them for all that they do to make our school so very special, and our junior high students welcomed them with flowers and escorted them to a volunteer breakfast. Our silent-auction winners of "Rule the School" were principal and assistant principal for a day! They had the important administrative tasks of checking in on our Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast, Lunch with Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Cilek, and making classroom visits. We welcomed back the St. Hubert Class of 2019 for a Graduation Walk. It was a wonderful opportunity to catchup and celebrate their achievements.
Our eighth graders have been preparing for graduation. Fr. Mike blessed their caps & gowns, they were confirmed last weekend and honored Mary at May Crowning. Spirits were high as we celebrated our athletes' achievements at the spring athletics pep rally. Congratulations to our student-athletes, who were honored at the Spring Athletics Awards Night. Our Family School Association (FSA) put together a beautiful Muffins with Moms event to celebrate our moms for Mother’s Day. We welcomed the newest St. Hubert School community members at the New Family Welcome Dinner. New families were paired with buddy parents of current students. The Knights of Columbus Council #6964 presented principal Julie Martin with a check from proceeds of the Pancake Breakfast they hosted to benefit our Tuition Assistance Fund. We thank the Knights for their generosity and continued support of our school.
Our 8th graders traveled to Camp Duncan for their retreat in preparation for their Confirmation this weekend. Our Junior High put on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering And Math) Day for the school. Students presented their hypotheses, research, procedures, conclusions, and lessons learned. Thank you Mrs. Cieslak for organizing this informative day! Our preschool through first grade students had a field trip to Brookfield Zoo. We have been named a 2023 School of Excellence by the Chicago History Museum. We had 11 students present at the regional level and 2 advanced to the state competition for National History Day in Springfield, IL. We celebrated our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week! An extra big thank you goes out to our FSA for a delicious lunch and to our students and their families for the many ways they have showered our teachers and staff with notes, decorations, and gifts throughout the week.
Last Saturday was the big day! We congratulate our Second Graders on receiving their first Eucharist. Our students went on a service field trip to Feed My Starving Children. It's always wonderful to see our students giving back! We congratulate our Boys Volleyball team on their 4th place conference finish! Did you know more than 17 scholarships have been awarded to St. Hubert Catholic School students for the 2023-24 school year thanks to the Invest in Kids Tax Credit Scholarship Program? Let your legislators know you value this program, and what it means to the St. Hubert Catholic School community, and ask them to #RemoveTheSunset! Despite its immense success, the Tax Credit Scholarship Program is a pilot program and has a sunset clause, which would end the program in 2023, unless our state lawmakers vote to extend or make the program permanent. It will take you less than one minute to complete the process. Thank you for your support!

Congratulations to two of our eighth-graders, who have advanced to the state competition of National History Day with their documentary titled "The Chinatown of Chicago: Breaking Down Old Barriers." Our third graders painted and decorated their Lenten Prayer Rocks. We had a lot of fun at Spring Fling with an egg hunt, craft, danced the bunny hop, and even enjoyed a visit for a very special guest!
This week our fourth and fifth graders presented Living Stations of the Cross to our students in kindergarten through third grade; and Junior Achievement came to speak to our fourth-eighth graders. They are the world's largest organization dedicated to educating students in grades K-12 about entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. Congratulations to our second-semester Honor Roll students!
